Sovereignty, Ted Noffey Eclipse Finalists for Into Mischief

January 6, 2026

Fresh off his record-tying seventh straight leading sire title in 2025, Into Mischief has two finalists for Eclipse Awards in 2025: Sovereignty in the 3-year-old male category, and Ted Noffey in the 2-year-old male category. Both horses are heavy favorites to win the respective awards.

The winners will be announced during the 55th Annual Resolute Racing Eclipse Awards, presented by John Deere, The Jockey Club and the NTRA, on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET in south Florida. Horse of the Year finalists and winner will be announced that evening.

Sovereignty put together a spectacular season, winning the Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont S. (G1), Travers S. (G1) and Jim Dandy S. (G2). His only blemish in five starts was a second to Tappan Street, another son of Into Mischief, in the Fountain of Youth (G2). Sovereignty is currently in south Florida and has resumed training for his 2026 campaign for trainer Bill Mott and owner/breeder Godolphin.

Ted Noffey, undefeated in four starts, with wins in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), Breeders’ Futurity (G1) and Hopeful S. (G1), appears to be a lock to win his category. Bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones, Ted Noffey sold to Spendthrift Farm LLC for $650,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September sale. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the gray/roan colt is also likely to take the south Florida route to an anticipated start in this year’s Kentucky Derby (G1), as Sovereignty did in 2025.

Into Mischief is the sire of six previous Eclipse Award winners:

Gamine: 2020 champion female sprinter
Authentic: 2020 Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male
Wonder Wheel: 2022 champion 2-year-old filly
