Spendthrift Farm’s regally-bred filly Tamara made a triumphant return to the races Saturday at Santa Anita Park with a dominating victory in the Chillingworth S. (G3).

By Spendthrift’s top-three Fourth-Crop sire Bolt d’Oro and out of four-time champion Beholder, Tamara has been held in the highest regard since she arrived on the farm. She rewarded her connections immediately, winning the 2023Del Mar Debutante S. (G10 in her second lifetime start.

After having raced just once in nearly two years, 4-year-old Tamara was eager from the start of Saturday’s 6 ½-furlong race, pressing Silent Law through a very quick half-mile in :44.06. Tamara took over from Silent Law at the top of the stretch and pulled away under a hand ride to finish a 3 ¾-length winner in 1:15.21 on a fast track.

“She was very eager leaving there,” said jockey Mike Smith. “She actually wanted to go head-to-head with (Silent Law) and I had to talk her out of it a little bit. Once she hit her left lead, she hit another gear. I thought, ‘Oh my. She’s back.’ I think I’m blowing more than she is from just trying to pull her up.”

Tamara is now 3-1-0 in five starts and has earned $321,400.
