Three graded winners in Breeders’ Cup for Vekoma

The nation’s leading Second-Crop sire Vekoma has three runners in this weekend’s Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, and all three come into the championship series off graded stakes wins.
On Friday in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1), the undefeated Bottas drew post 12 in the field of 14. Bottas, trained by Miguel Clement for Dahman, won the Pilgrim S. (G2) Oct. 3 at Belmont after breaking his maiden at first asking, Aug. 23 at Saratoga. A $300,000 OBS Spring 2-year-old this April, Bottas was bred by BCS Thoroughbreds.
The Juvenile Turf runs Friday at 8:25 pm ET.
On Saturday in the Filly & Mare Sprint (G1), Praying drew the outside gate in the field of 10. In her most recent two starts, Praying won the Prioress S. (G3) and Thoroughbred Club of America S. (G2). The 3-year-old filly is owned by Newtownanner Stud Farm. Praying was bred in Kentucky by Jeff Kerber and sold for $410,000 as a 2-year-old.
The Filly & Mare Sprint is the first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday, at 3:00 pm ET.
In the Sprint (G1) Mad House drew outside as well, post 13 of 14. The 3-year-old comes into the six-furlong dash riding a four-race winning streak, including most recently in the Gallant Bob S. (G2) Sept. 20 at Parx. His four wins have come by a combined 25 lengths. Owned by James Thares, Mad House was bred by Jean White, Wavertree Farm & SGVThoroughbreds, LLC.
The Sprint, race 6, is scheduled to run at 4:21 pm ET.
Vekoma’s Breeders’ Cup entries are three of his seven graded winners in 2025. The champion Freshman sire of 2024, Vekoma leads this year’s Second-Crop list in nearly every statistical category. He will stand the 2026 season for $100,000 S&N.
