Vekoma colt much the best in Oklahoma Derby (G3)
September 28, 2025
Bracket Buster took the lead with a quarter-mile to go in the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby (G3) and never looked back, rolling home a 3 ¼-length winner to give the 3-year-old Vekoma colt his first graded stakes victory.
Vekoma, a runaway leader of the 2025 Second-Crop sire list, now has eight graded winners and a dozen stakes winners overall, with progeny earnings approaching $10 million.
Bracket Buster got an ideal tracking trip under Luis Saez in the 1 1/8-mile contest. He sat patiently just off the lead set by Mister Omaha. Bracket Buster engaged the pacesetter midway through the final turn, then took the lead for good just before turning for home. He easily pulled away in the stretch to finish up in 1:49.99 on a fast track.
A seven-length winner of Monmouth Park’s Pegasus S. in June, Bracket Buster finished second to Sovereignty in last month’s Travers S. (G1). Owned by BBN Racing LLC, the bay colt’s record stands at 3-2-1 in 10 starts, with earnings of $776,318.
Bracket Buster was bred in Kentucky by David Baxter.
