Yaupon colt romps by a dozen lengths for first stakes win
August 14, 2025

Crown the Buckeye turned the $100,000 Cleveland Kindergarten S. into a one-horse race with a powerhouse performance to win the six-furlong race for 2-year-olds by 12 ¼-lengths.
The bay colt is the second stakes winner of the year for leading First-Crop sire Yaupon, who now has 11 winners overall.
Crown the Buckeye, who was second to No More Cents in the Hoover S., his career debut on July 18, turned the tables in Thursday’s race. Crown the Buckeye went straight to the front and enjoyed a measured one-length lead after a quarter mile. He held his margin around the turn, then with a sudden burst of acceleration at the top of the stretch, ran away from the field to win in a gallop.
Crown the Buckeye is owned by Paradise Farms Corp., David Staudacher, and Hooties Racing LLC. Bred by Pick View LLC, Paul W. Schaffer & William D. Pickerrell, Crown the Buckeye sold for $250,000 at this year’s OBS Spring 2-year-old sale.
