Yaupon filly makes short work of foes in debut win
July 29, 2025
Woodstock drew off nicely in the final furlong of her maiden special weight win July 28 at Horseshoe Indianapolis to become the latest winner for Yaupon.
Now with eight winners, Yaupon has twice as many as any other First-Crop sire.
Woodstock was third in the early stages of Monday’s five-furlong contest, then began to advance steadily on the turn. Little Sam’s had a four-length lead at the top of the stretch, which quickly began to evaporate as Woodstock hit her best stride. She went to the lead inside the final furlong and drew away to win by 3 ¼-lengths over the sloppy going.
The winner is owned Paradise Farms Corp., David Staudacher, Gata Racing Stable LLC & Turman Racing Stable LLC, and was purchased by her trainer Mike Maker for $100,000 at the 2025 OBS March 2-year-old sale.
Woodstock was bred in Kentucky by Southern Comfort Farm LLC and hails from the family of the immortal Northern Dancer.
