Yaupon filly rockets to Golden State Juvenile Fillies S.

October 31, 2025

Mohaven became Yaupon’s seventh First-Crop stakes winner Friday at Del Mar with a 4 ¼-length score in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies.

Yaupon is nearly an across-the-board leader of the First-Crop sire list, currently with over $2.1 million in progeny earnings. Yaupon’s fee for 2026 is $60,000 live foal.

After finishing second in the Generous Portion S. at Del Mar on Sept. 1, Mohaven got a brief freshening before returning in Friday’s seven-furlong race. In the three path down the backstretch while sitting in third, Mohaven cruise up next to pacesetter Cashed at the top of the stretch. After bumping briefly, Mohaven began to draw off and came home a very smart winner in 1:23.88 on a fast track.

“This is the best draw she’s gotten,” said trainer John Sadler. “I know she was on the rail the last race down here (at Del Mar). She ran three good races here, two seconds and a win. Now we had a little time to freshen her and get ready for this one.”

Mohaven, owned by Legacy Ranch, Inc., is 2-2-0 in four starts and has earned $182,750. She was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises.
