First-crop colts by Yaupon were among the hottest sellers in the early stages of the May 20 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in Training sale, with four juveniles bringing at least $250,000 and topped by a $700,000.

Hip No. 136, consigned by Grassroots Training and Sales LLC, agent, was the top-priced colt by his sire, with Mahmud Mouni the winning bidder.

The dark bay is the second foal out of Frosty Margarita, who was a four-time stakes winner of nearly $600,000.

A little later in the session hip No. 194, consigned by Steven Venosa’s SVG Thoroughbreds, LLC, went for $500,000 to Justin Cassie, bidding on behalf of M. V. Magnier.

The bay colt is out of the triple graded stakes winner Just Jenda, who has already produced stakes winners Jenda’s Agenda and Miss Alacrity from her four foals to race. This is also the extended family of champion Nyquist and Grade 1 winner Sahara Sky.

Prior to the current sale, Yaupon’s juveniles were averaging $248,894 during the 2-year-old auction season, third highest among all First-Crop sires. On the racetrack, his first starter Sassy C W was a dazzling 5 ¼-length maiden special weight winner at Churchill Downs during Derby week, earning the filly a TDN ‘Rising Star’.
