No. 1 Freshman Sire Bolt d’Oro strikes at KEESEP with $775,000 colt

No. 1 Freshman Sire Bolt d’Oro stayed red hot, with a colt from his second crop commanding $775,000 – the second highest price during the first session of Book Three at the annual Keeneland September sale.

Bred by George Kirkorian and sold by Hill ‘n’ Dale, the handsome bay colt out of the Congrats mare Beautified was purchased by renowned agent Ben McElroy after a contentious bidding battle.

Bolt d’Oro’s second-crop yearlings have averaged $252,500 from 16 sold to date at Keeneland September, easily ranking inside the top 20 among all stallions by average at the popular sale. His 2020 stud fee was $25,000 S&N, giving him an average that is more than 10 times the bred-on fee.

Bolt d’Oro sits atop the 2022 Freshman Sire List with $1,253,376 in earnings. He’s been represented by 16 winners to date including a crop-high 8 black type two-year-olds.
