Jimmy Creed’s 2-year-old colt Private Creed won his second straight stakes race on Sunday at Keeneland in the $250,000 Indian Summer S., setting him up for a potential start in next month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, which will also be at Keeneland.

Private Creed is the second stakes winner of the month and third in the last two weeks for Jimmy Creed. His six stakes winners this year leads all Sixth-Crop sires.

Private Creed was between horses about four lengths from the front as the field made its way down the backstretch. He began to close ground while two-wide on the turn, then came even wider as the field turned for home. He still had three lengths to make up with a furlong to run, but responded very well and surged to the front to win by nearly a length in a stakes-record 1:02.30 for the 5 ½-furlongs on the firm turf.

“He acts like he’d go farther, but with the success he’s having sprinting we’re very happy to keep doing this with him for now,” said Private Creed’s trainer Steve Asmussen.

Winner of the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Sprint S. last month, Private Creed is now 3-0-1 in four starts and has earned $509,313 for owner Mike McCarty.

The winner was bred in Kentucky by Sierra Farm and is out of stakes winner South Andros. Her yearling colt by Vino Rosso fetched $200,000 from Spendthrift Farm at Fasig-Tipton July. South Andros is back in foal carrying a full to Private Creed.
