Striking Thousand Words colt realizes $300K Thursday at OBS sale

Thousand Words’ $300,000 colt, hip 633, at the 2024 OBS Spring 2yo Sale – Judit Seipert

Thursday’s session of the 2024 OBS Spring 2yo Sale brought the best results to date for Thousand Words when a flashy-looking colt went for $300,000 to Spendthrift Farm.

From the Tom McCrocklin consignment, hip No. 633 is out of the Tale of the Cat mare Silver Shimmer. She is a half-sister to two-time South American champion Esidio as well as U. S. multiple stakes winner Rule by Night.

The Kentucky-bred chestnut was originally purchased by Michael Sucher’s Champion Equine for $150,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton July Yearling sale.

Thousand Words, whose first crop are 2-year-olds this year, got off to a very good start when his first runner The Queens M G won her debut in a 4 ½-furlongs maiden special weight race Apr. 7 at Keeneland.

Through the first three days of the current auction, Thousand Words sales average is more than 20 times his stud fee.
