Temple City 2yo wins main track stakes debut

December 4, 2021

Boise made his first start on the main track a winning one with a come-from-behind victory in the $75,000 Gold Rush S. Dec. 4 at Golden Gate Fields.

Boise is Temple City’s fifth stakes winner and one of his 17 stakes horses this year, accounting for more stakes horses than sires such as Kitten’s Joy, Cairo Prince and Bernardini.

With Il Capitano intent on getting the lead at the break, Boise settled back in midpack as the field of nine rounded the first turn. Il Capitano was up by as much as six lengths on the backstretch before relinquishing his lead to Grade 1-placed Degree of Risk at the top of the stretch. Boise was still sixth with a furlong to go, but closed with a rush to win by a half-length over Degree of Risk.

Boise’s record now stands at two wins from three starts, with earnings of $72,000 for owners Jason Hall, Scott Herbertson and Sheldon Steinmetz. The dark bay colt was bred in Kentucky by Upson Downs Farms and is out of the multiple stakes winner Chu and You.
