Undefeated Muskoka Wonder wins stakes debut

August 5, 2018

Muskoka Wonder capped a terrific weekend for Into Mischief on Sunday when the 2-year-old filly took the $125,000 Clarendon S. at Woodbine in her stakes debut.

The Mark Casse trainee is now undefeated in two 5-1/2 furlong sprints following Sunday’s win and his career debut victory at the same track on July 22.

Going along comfortably in fourth several lengths from the front, Muskoka Wonder began his rally with three furlongs to run. He made up some ground on the turn, but it wasn’t until straightening for the wire that the long-striding colt turned on the jets as he flew past Crawl From the Bar to win by 1 1/2-lengths in 1:04.47.

“The horse seems to be really willing and wanting to win,” said owner Manfred Conrad. “I don’t know how good he’ll be eventually, but I really have great confidence that he’ll do well in the future and thanks to Casse’s team and especially (jockey Patrick Husbands). Patrick just seems to ride him perfectly. We’re very excited.”

The Canadian-bred is out of the stakes-placed mare No Wonder, whose sister Weemissfrankie won both the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Oak Leaf S. (G1) at two. Conrad purchased Muskoka Wonder for $130,000 out of the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

In addition to Muskoka Wonder’s tally, Into Mischief’s Golden Mischief was a 7 1/4-length winner of the West Virginia Secretary of State S. on Saturday for her second straight black type win, while on Sunday I’m Betty G just missed the track record in her win in the $100,000 Kentucky Downs Preview Ladies Turf at Ellis Park.
