Valedictorian digs deep to win Sand Springs S.

March 31, 2019

Temple City’s graded stakes winner Valedictorian got her fourth career stakes win Saturday at Gulfstream Park with a gallant effort in the $100,000 Sands Spring S.

After pressing Vendita for a half-mile through :48.91, Valedictorian took over the top spot. Post-time favorite Proctor’s Ledge immediately took up the chase on the far turn, and despite a stretch-long challenge, Valedictorian would not let her by, winning by a head in 1:34.92 on the firm turf.

Valedictorian, 5, won the Suwannee River S. (G3) on Feb. 9, and a pair of stakes in 2018. Her overall record is now an outstanding 11-6-3 in 26 starts, with earnings of $563,765 for Epic Racing.

Pedigree note from the TDN:

One of 11 stakes winners for Temple City, Valedictorian is out of the 2005 GIII Eatontown H. winner Smart N Classy, a race mare who won or placed in nine black type events at Monmouth Park and Laurel Park.
