A pair of fillies by leading sire Into Mischief brought identical winning bids of $425,000 during the first day of the May 22-23 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training sale, the co-second highest price of the Monday session.

Into Mischief was the only sire represented by more than one lot in the top 10 results for the day, while the Spendthrift stallion’s four lot sold for an average of $265,500.

First through the ring was hip No. 34 consigned by Wes Carter on behalf of Carolyn Vogel. The gray or roan filly had plenty of pre-sale hype following her quarter-mile work in a bullet :21 2/5 seconds during last week’s Under Tack show. The winning bidder was Donato Lanni, agent.

“She worked really well,” Lanni said after signing the ticket. “She looked good and she came back good and she vetted (perfect).”

Later in the session, hip No. 123 went to Speedway Stable from the McKathan Brothers consignment. The bay filly also had a swift Under Tack show work, getting a furlong in :10 2/5. She is out of the graded stakes-placed American Chance mare So Long Sonoma and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed filly Rastanora.

“I thought she was very athletic. And obviously, I love Into Mischief” said EQB’s Patti Miller, who bought the filly on behalf of Zayat Stables as a yearling. “I think he’s a working-man’s sire, a blue-collar sire, but they show up and run.”

Tomorrow’s Midlantic session features an additional three Into Mischief lots.
