Omaha Beach filly dominates Belle Mahone (G3) in 2025 debut

May 31, 2025

Caitlinhergrtness, last year’s King’s Plate winner and Canadian champion 3-year-old filly, rolled through the Woodbine stretch to win the $150,000 Belle Mahone S. (G3) by five lengths in the first start of 2025 for the 4-year-old daughter of Omaha Beach.

The chestnut filly is the seven stakes winner of the year for her sire, who is solidly on top of the 2025 Third-Crop Sire list with more than $4.2 million in progeny earnings.

Caitlinhergrtness, who had been away from the races since last November, had posted four straight bullet workouts in preparation for her 2025 debut. She tucked in smartly along the fence behind the pacesetter For Flying (BRZ) who posted a half-mile of :47.56. Still in third around the final turn, she burst between horses turning for home and quickly opened up on the field and came home a comfortable winner in 1:42.26 for the 1 1/16-miles on the synthetic track.

“I was a little more nervous with her, just because she had been working so fast, and we were making a conscious effort trying to slow her down in the mornings,” said trainer Kevin Attard. “She came into us early in the year from WinStar, just looking like a different animal. She matured so much, she filled out, she grew and, you know, it all transpired onto the racetrack.”

Caitlinhergrtness is now 4-1-2 in 10 starts and has earned $772,414 for owner WinStar Farm LLC, who purchased the filly for $375,000 at the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale. She was bred in Canada by Jess Korona.
