May 31, 2026

Cornucopian pulled away from Roll On Big Joe in the final furlong of Saturday’s $275,000 Aristides S. (G3) to give the 4-year-old Into Mischief colt his second graded stakes win of 2026.
The $1.1 million Keeneland September yearling was at the top of his game in the six-furlong sprint. Mad House blazed through an opening quarter of :22.20, with Cornucopian just a head back in second. Mad House began to fade just after entering the turn, giving Cornucopian the lead, while Roll On Big Joe ranged up to be within a neck at the top of the stretch.
Side by side until just outside the sixteenth pole, Cornucopian asserted his dominance to win by 1 ¼-lengths in 1:08.41, good for a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 103 and less than a second off the track record.
“We threw his race out on Derby Day (in the G1 Churchill Downs),” winning trainer Bob Baffert said. “It was just a disaster. Being here in the Midwest there are a lot of options and winning a graded stakes here at Churchill is always special.
“He’s still figuring it out, how to run. Today, he was hitting another gear there in the end.”
