Omaha Beach, the nation’s leading Fourth-Crop sire, got his sixth stakes winner of the year June 11 at Santa Anita Park when Magnificat won the Desert Stormer S. by nearly a length over Syntax.

Owned and bred by Spendthrift Farm, the 4-year-old filly was making her second appearance in a stakes race Thursday. She went to the lead right from the outset, with Revera her closest pursuer through fractions of :22.72 and :45.36. Turning for home, Syntax took up the chase but could get no closer than the final margin.

“I think today was her best surface,” said winning rider Antonio Fresu about the main track. “Last time she won on the grass because she has a lot of talent. She broke well and I took the chance to go and grab the lead. She was always comfortable there. Once the five horse (Syntax) was coming on the outside, she was always responding. I thought she won pretty easy.”

Trained by Richard Mandella, Magnificat is 4-1-1 in seven starts and has earned $199,200. She is out of Holy Helena, who earned over $1.3 million and won four graded stakes in her stellar career.
