Iron Orchard seized the lead at the start of Saratoga’s Fleet Indian S. and never looked back, strolling to a 12-length win to give the 3-year-old daughter of Authentic her third career stakes victory.

Iron Orchard is the sixth stakes winner this year for Authentic, who is fourth on the Third-Crop sire list with just shy of $5 million in progeny earnings.

The post-time favorite in the field of seven, Iron Orchard was fastest out of the gate and maintained a one-length lead over Venetta through the first six furlongs. At that point, she begin to separate herself from the field with ease and came into the homestretch with a four-length lead. The margin grew with every stride despite being eased up in the final sixteenth.

The time for the 1 1/8-miles on a fast track was 1:51.70.

“Jose (Ortiz) rode her with a ton of confidence,” winning trainer Asmussen said. “I was extremely pleased to see her get back to that. I think she needed the previous races to get back to where we were at. We needed to win this race today and I think she’s got a lot of races left in her.”

Winner of the Frizette S. (G1) last year, Iron Orchard is now 4-0-0 in seven starts and has earned $495,350 for KatieRich Stables LLC. The dark bay filly was bred in New York by Pine Ridge Stable LLC.
