Undefeated Consequent tops Saturday stakes double for Into Mischief

Consequent ran her record to a perfect 4-for-4 in Saturday night’s $200,000 Seneca S. at Churchill Downs, a few hours after Love Cervere scored in the $175,000 Floral Park S. at Belmont Park, giving Into Mischief two stakes winners on the day.

Consequent, winner of last year’s Starlet S. (G2) for trainer Bob Baffert, dominated the 1 1/16-mile Seneca, getting the lead with about three furlongs to run, then drawing off with authority to score by 4 ¾-lengths.

“Thanks to Mr. Pegram, I was able to fly on his plane from Parx to Churchill Downs and got here with plenty of time,” winning jockey Flavien Prat said. “I was ready to go, and I’m glad things worked out with Consequent winning.”

Consequent is a Juddmonte homebred and has earned $342,460 in her four wins. The 3-year-old is a full sister to dual stakes winner Show Card.

In the Floral Park, Love Cervere rallied from last in the field of nine to win the six-furlong turf affair by 1 ½-lengths over Leslie’s Humor. The 4-year-old filly now has five stakes wins and has earned $592,766 for owners Edward A. Seltzer (also her breeder), Beverly Anderson and Reeves Thoroughbred Racing.

“She did not like Kentucky Downs (in last month’s Ladies Turf Sprint (G1)) and I thought we were too forwardly placed [there],” said trainer Miguel Clement. “She’s a filly that does her best running with one late kick even if she breaks well. I told Joel [Rosario], ‘No matter what, dawdle, wait at the back.’ It’s kind of his forte or specialty because he loves doing that, so the two of them are a dynamic duo.”

Into Mischief has a total of 22 stakes winners and 13 graded winners this year, both tops among all North American sires.
