Third stakes win of 2018 for Miss Sunset

September 3, 2018

Into Mischief’s ultra-consistent 4-year-old daughter Miss Sunset showed her class once again in the $100,000 C.E.R.F. Stakes on Labor Day at Del Mar, winning the six furlong affair by nearly two lengths in another flawless performance.

Miss Sunset is a remarkable 10-3-2 in just 18 starts, with nine of her wins coming in stakes company, including the Raven Run S. (G2) and now back-to-back runnings of the C.E.R.F.

Breaking alertly under Mike Smith, Miss Sunset tracked longshot Dis Smart Cat in the early stages before pulling even with the leader at the quarter pole. After a brief tussle in the stretch, Miss Sunset asserted herself in the final furlong, pulling away under a hand ride to stop the timer in 1:10.48 on the fast track.

The winner is owned by Alan Klein and Philip Lebherz, also her breeders, and upped her bankroll to $879,295. She is out of Tuscan Sunset, a sister to five-time stakes winner Sizzlin South.

Into Mischief continues to be one of the most brilliant sires of the year, with 14 stakes winners, 21 stakes wins, and nearly $9.8 million in progeny earnings, which is the highest earnings figure in his first seven crops.
