Perennial top sire of his class Goldencents had a banner day Wednesday at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training when hip No. 546 brought a winning bid of $535,000, ultimately one the top 10 prices paid for a colt through the first two days of the four-day auction.

Consigned by Eddie Woods, agent and bred by Spruce Lane Farm, the bay colt was purchased by Chad Schumer, agent. Woods’ Quarter Pole Enterprises pinhooking partnership purchased the colt for $150,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

“(Goldencents’ offspring) are great runners…This horse was a proper sales horse,” said Schumer. “He is big, strong, with a tremendous walk. He was very correct and he vetted perfectly. I think when you jump through all the hoops and you have a bullet work, you kind of have to expect to pay.”

Schumer was referring to the colt’s :09 4/5 second furlong breeze during last week’s Under Tack Show.

The beautifully-bred colt is out of Ida Clark and is a half-brother to Just One Time, who won the Apr. 9 Madison S. (G1) at Keeneland, as well as stakes winner and track record holder Black Stetson.

Goldencents has an opportunity to get a new Keeneland stakes winner of his own when Phantom Currency, already the winner of the Kitten’s Joy S. (G3) this year, goes postward in Saturday’s Elkhorn S. (G2).
