Dabo comes from far off the pace to win Springfield S.

July 27, 2019

Despite a daunting 15-length deficit on the backstretch, Temple City’s Dabo came rolling into the stretch to win the $75,000 Springfield S. Saturday at Arlington Park by 5 ¼-lengths, the first stakes win for the 3-year-old (VIDEO).

Dabo placed in both the Marine S. (G3) and the John Battaglia Memorial S. earlier this year, and is Temple City’s fifth stakes winner of 2019.

Facing just three foes in the one-mile Springfield, Dabo dropped well off the quick pace set by the dueling D’fever and Tak. At the halfway point, the margin was about 15 lengths, but by the time they hit the stretch, Dabo was in full gear and just two lengths from the front. Blowing past D’fever, he drew off in the lane to get the mile in 1:36.72.

Dabo is now 3-0-2 in 10 starts and has earned $112,200 for West Point Thoroughbreds and Peacock Stable. Dabo is from the same family as The Vid, who earned nearly $1 million and won seven graded stakes.
