Dominus’ Speedy Justice comes up big in return

July 12, 2020

Speedy Justice’s eye-catching win in a turf allowance on July 11 at Del Mar upped the Dominus colt’s record to a perfect two-for-two and signaled he will be a force to reckon with in the turf sprint division.

After a dominating 7 ¼-length debut maiden special weight win over the same Del Mar course in November, he was given the winter off by trainer Bob Baffert before resurfacing on Saturday. After a three-way battle for the lead early on, Speedy Justice emerged on top at the head of the stretch, then pulled away with authority to win by 2 ½-lengths in :55.35 for the five furlongs, earning a 99 Beyer Speed Figure.

Speedy Justice is owned by Michael and Nydia Sigband and was bred in Kentucky by Justice Farm. He was cataloged in the 2019 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale, and had the fastest furlong work, at :09 3/5, during the Under Tack Show, but was withdrawn. His dam Super Seller is a half-sister to Grade 2 turf winner T. D. Vance.

Dominus’ 2-year-olds of 2020 represent his largest crop of runners to date. His winners from starters ratio is nearly 75%, far away the best of his crop.
