Free Drop Maddy rolls to second stakes victory

Free Drop Billy’s 2-year-old filly Free Drop Maddy tallied a decisive 6 ¾-length victory in the $75,000 Donovan L Ferguson Memorial S. on Nov. 18 at Fair Grounds, for her second stakes win of the year (WATCH RACE).
The bay filly, who sold for $200,000 by Mansfield Racing at this year’s Texas 2-year-old sale in April, has compiled an impressive 2-1-2 record in five starts and earned $165,800 for her owner.
Free Drop Maddy broke alertly in the 5 ½-furlong contest and battled with Cced for Steph for the first three furlongs. She put away her foe coming into the stretch and pulled away powerfully for an easy win, getting the distance in 1:05.29 on a fast track.
The winner is trained by Bret Calhoun and was bred by Clear Creek Stud LLC. The bay filly’s dam Solo Buena is a sister to multiple stakes winners Old Bushmill and Ide Like a Double.
Free Drop Maddy was the first stakes winner for her sire when she won the $150,000 Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity S. in July. Free Drop Billy will stand the 2023 season at Spendthrift for %5,000 live foal.
