Goldencents’ first Kentucky Derby (G1) starter By My Standards drew post 3 in the 20-horse field at the official draw ceremony on Tuesday morning for Saturday’s $3 million Run for the Roses.

By My Standards earned a berth in the Kentucky Derby with his triumph in the $1 million Louisiana Derby (G2), five weeks after the bay colt broke his maiden by 4 ¼-lengths over the same Fair Grounds track.

Since winning in Louisiana, By My Standards has been stabled at Churchill Downs, recording four works in a span of 24 days during April. Trainer Bret Calhoun was practical about drawing post 3.

“Gabe (jockey Gabriel Saez) said he wanted somewhere between post five and 12,” said Calhoun. “We drew three, but it is close enough. I’m glad we didn’t draw the rail or post 20.”

By My Standards is Goldencents’ leading earner this year and put him on the top spot on the 2019 Second-Crop Sire list with 20 individual winners and $1.3 million in progeny earnings.
