Gormley colt breaks maiden in $107,000 Louisiana Futurity S.

December 31, 2021

Top-10 First-Crop sire Gormley finished 2021 in style when Bron and Brow won the $107,900 Louisiana Futurity at Fair Grounds on New Year’s Eve.

After making his debut on the West Coast, Bron and Brow was transferred to the Mark Casse barn last month. He responded with a close second in the Dec. 11 Louisiana Juvenile before his breakthrough win on Friday.

Sent away the odds-on favorite under Adam Beschizza, Bron and Brow pressed Charco through a quarter in :22.09 and the half in :45.59. Bron and Brow took over the lead at the top of the stretch, then pulled clear in the final furlong to win by 2 ¾-lengths.

“This horse has got a lot of talent–very unlucky in his last race (Dec. 11) when he got the bad trip but he went very fast as well,” said David Carroll, assistant to Casse. “Today was a much different race. Adam rode a great race, very aware of the horse he rode last time for Mr. Asmussen [Charco] and he kept him on his target.”

Carroll added that the dark bay colt could stretch out for the first start of his 3-year-old campaign.

“We feel there is more to come from this horse,” Carroll said. “Mark and (owner) Mr. Barber will talk about two turns, but there is a race early next month if they wish to take advantage of it, going a mile, so maybe that will be his next race.”

Bron and Brow is now 1-1-1 in three starts and has earned $91,820. He is the second stakes winner from Gormley’s first crop.

Bron and Brow sold for $200,000 at the 2021 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale. He was bred by J. Adcock and Hume Wornall and is the second stakes winner out of Changing Vista, who has a 2022 yearling by Brody’s Cause.

Gormley finished 2021 as a top-10 First Crop sire by progeny earnings, winners, wins, graded stakes horses and black type horses. He is standing the 2022 season for $7,500 S&N.
