Gormley’s 15th winner cruises in MdSpWt victory

First-Crop sire Gormley was represented by 15th winner on Oct. 19 at Indiana Grand when Malibu Classic rolled to a 4 ¾-length victory in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds.
Gormley is on even terms with Gun Runner for first-crop winners, tying him for third on the Freshman sire list. The Spendthrift stallion has a pair of juveniles entered Wednesday in maiden special weights at Keeneland.
Malibu Classic, well-placed in fourth early on, was wide around the turn, the quickly took command with a quarter-mile to run, drawing off easily to win as much the best.
The winner is owned by his breeder Mast Thoroughbreds.
Spendthrift recently announced Gormley’s 2022 fee at $7,500 S&N. Among his winners this year are Saratoga Special S. (G2) champ High Oak and graded stakes-placed duo of Mama Rina and Headline Report.
