Itsmyluckycharm keeps on winning in Azalea S.

June 29, 2019

Itsmyluckycharm rang up her sixth win in her last seven starts Saturday at Gulfstream Park with a three-quarter length tally in the $75,000 Azalea S.

Breaking from the inside post in the seven-furlong contest, jockey Albin Jimenez kept his mount several lengths off the pace before making a four-wide bid at the top of the stretch. Splitting horses with a furlong to run, she ran past Calinas Song in the final sixteenth to secure the win.

“She’s just a filly that won’t be denied,” said winning conditioner and breeder Eddie Plesa, Jr. “Every once in a while you come up with a horse that they don’t want to get beat, and she’s that horse. She just does what she has to do to get up there and win the race.”

The 3-year-old Itsmyluckyday filly now has seven wins and three seconds in 13 lifetime starts and could be on her way to Kentucky for the July 8 Fasig-Tipton horses of racing age sale, according to Plesa.

“I’m going to talk it over with Laurie (his wife) tonight at dinner and we’ll make a decision,” Plesa said.

Itsmyluckycharm is one of her sire’s most versatile runners, with wins on both turf, and dirt and sprinting and going a route, including the Portfino Bay S. June 7 at Gulfstream.
