Malibu Moon exacta in $100K Sweet Briar Too S.

September 15, 2018

Moonlit Promise out-dueled Malibu Bonnie in an eventful renewal of the $100,000 Sweet Briar Too S. on Saturday at Woodbine.

The pair of Malibu Moon distaffers were a half-length apart at the wire after finishing the 6 1/2-furlongs in 1:16.32.

Moonlit Promise, who had a steady diet of graded stakes since winning this race in 2017, broke a bit awkwardly and found herself near the back of the seven-horse field soon after the start, with Malibu Bonnie taking the early lead.

Going down the backstrech, Eurico Rosa Da Silva, on Moonlit Promise, moved his filly swiftly up the rail, only to have to put on the brakes when impeded by the pacesetter going into the turn. Into the stretch, Da Silva switch his mount to the outside to take on Malibu Bonnie. The duo fought to the wire, finishing nearly three lengths ahead of the rest of the field.

Winner of the Bessarabian S. (G2) and Ontario Fashion S. (G3) in 2017, Moonlit Promise upped her bankroll to $418,583 owners Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings (also her breeder) and Windsor Boys Racing.

Top-10 sire Malibu Moon is having another excellent year at stud, with 11 stakes winners, including new Grade 1 winners Ransom the Moon and Magnum Moon, and more than $7.4 million in progeny earnings to date.
