Medal Count colt sells for six figures at Arqana

May 13, 2019

Spendthrift Farm First-Crop sire Medal Count’s first 2-year-old to sell overseas brought a winning bid of $123,575 at the May 10-11 Arqana Deauville Breeze-Up Sale in France.

Offered by Powerstown Stud, the colt, hip No. 101, went to New Approach Bloodstock following a sharp breeze over the Deauville turf [VIDEO].

The bay juvenile’s dam, Henry’s Posse, was a two-time stakes winner in the United States and is closely related to the Personal Ensign S. (G1) winner Passing Shot.

Medal Count is one of Spendthrift’s first-crop sires participating in the farm’s Safe Bet program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
