Mischevious Alex tops banner day for Into Mischief

February 1, 2020

With a commanding seven-length win in the $150,000 Swale S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park, Mischevious Alex was the first of two stakes winners on the first day of February for Into Mischief.

The leading sire of 2019, Into Mischief already has five stakes winners this year, with top 3-year-olds in both the colt and filly divisions. The brilliant filly Taraz, who won the Martha Washington S. at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, could potentially face colts in her next start.

But the spotlight at Gulfstream was on Mischevious Alex, who had been off since winning the Parx Juvenile by nearly 10 lengths in early November. Making his first graded stakes start, the bay colt went head-to-head with Field Pass through a half-mile in :45.02. Turning for home, he opened up suddenly to finish the seven furlongs in 1:22.83 under a hand ride.

“If you throw out this horse’s turf race, he should be undefeated,” winning trainer John Servis said. “He’s always been a push-button horse, but very green. When we decided to put the blinkers on him, that’s when he started to mind his business.”

Mischevious Alex is 3-1-1 in six starts and has earned $179,230 for Cash is King LLC and LC Racing LLC. He was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm and sold to his owners for $140,000 as a 2-year-old.

Pedigree Notes from the TDN:

Mischevious Alex becomes the 27th graded winner for leading sire Into Mischief. Two-time winner White Pants Night was purchased as a broodmare prospect by WinStar Farm for $100,000 at the 2014 KEENOV Sale. The 9-year-old mare is a half-sister to graded winner Hebbronville and stakes winners Master of Disaster and A Day for Dancing.
