Mor Lana Spirit wins first start in style

September 3, 2022

Mor Spirit got his second winner in as many days on Sept. 2 when Mor Lana Spirit used a powerful stretch run to win his debut in a one-mile maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds (WATCH RACE).

The bay colt is the seventh winner for First-Crop sire Mor Spirit, with all seven victories coming in maiden special weight races at distances from five furlongs to one mile.

Mor Lana Spirit was the lone first-time starter in the field of seven and settled well off the pace from his inside post. Down the backstretch, he was restrained slightly with traffic trouble in front of him, causing his rider to move well off the rail. He lost ground while very wide on the turn, then after straightening for home, put in a big kick to go from sixth to first and won going away by 1 ½-lengths.

Mor Lana Spirit races for Southana Racing LLC and was bred by Terrazas Thoroughbreds, Litt Family Trust and Jason Litt. The winner’s stakes-placed dam Morlana is out of Grade 1 winner Tuscolana (CHI).
