Air Cav re-rallies to be the 10th winner for Mitole

Top-five First-Crop sire Mitole registered his 10th winner Aug. 30 at Indiana Grand when Air Cav took a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight affair for 2-year-olds in dramatic style.
Air Cav, who was making his debut, broke well and took up a position in third for the backstretch run. He made a swift move for the lead midway through the turn and entered the stretch with Cats by Five in very close pursuit. Cats by Five pulled ahead by nearly a length inside the final furlong, but Air Cav used one last surge to get to the wire a neck in front of his rival.
The winner is owned by Calumet Farm and was bred in Kentucky by Highlight Thoroughbreds and Haugh Stables. Air Cav sold to his owner for $125,000 at the 2021 Keeneland November sale.
