Brody’s Cause filly breaks maiden in Santa Anita’s Anokia S.

Kalypso’s front-running win in Sunday’s Anokia S. at Santa Anita Park was the first victory for the 2-year-old Brody’s Cause filly, capping a very nice Sunday for her sire that also saw Gospel Way finish second in the Display S. at Woodbine.

With two stakes winners and four stakes horses, Brody’s Cause leads all First-Crop sires in both categories.
Kalypso wasted little time getting to the lead, taking charge in the first sixteenth. She passed the half-mile in :45.14 with a 1 ½-length lead, then widened in the stretch under a hand ride to get the six furlongs in 1:10.30 on a fast track.
“We’ve been wanting to run her long, but we couldn’t get a race to go,” said her trainer Bob Baffert. “She’s been training well and she’s changed a lot. We’ll stretch her out next time.”
Baffert conditions the chestnut filly for Rockingham Ranch and Dave Bernsen LLC.
Kalypso sold for $240,000 at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearlings sale. She was bred by Spendthrift Farm and is the first foal out of the Malibu Moon mare Malibu Cove, who is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Prospective. Malibu Cove has a Mor Spirit weanling and was bred this year to Jimmy Creed.
