Dayoutoftheoffice becomes Into Mischief’s third G1 winner of 2020

October 11, 2020

Dayoutoftheoffice added another highlight to Into Mischief’s incredible year Saturday at Belmont Park when the 2-year-old filly powered to a two-length victory in the $250,000 Frizette S. (G1).

The filly is her sire’s eighth lifetime Grade 1 winner and the third this year, as well as one of his remarkable 26 stakes winners in 2020. His progeny earnings currently stand at $14,271,070 with 2 ½-months still left in the year.

Dayoutoftheoffice also earned an automatic berth into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) on Nov. 6 at Keeneland.

The dark bay filly had been off since winning the Schuylerville S. (G3) by six lengths on July 16 at Saratoga, but picked up right where she left off. In hand in second until just outside the quarter pole, she accelerated past Joy’s Rocket and easily held off Vequist, who finished 10 lengths in front of the third-place finisher, to get the mile on a fast main track in 1:35.82.

“When you ride fast horses, it makes it easy for you,” said jockey Junior Alvarado. “I thought [the pace] was going to be a little more contested and I was going to stalk, but I felt like I was in control of the race from where I was. I knew I had the horse in front of me [measured], so I just made sure my filly got into a nice rhythm and at the same time keep everybody where I wanted them to be. It worked out great today.”

The winner is owned by Siena Farms and Tim Hamm, the former also her breeder and the latter doubling as the filly’s trainer.

Hamm said the layoff since the Schuylerville was by design.

“She’s a big, scopey filly and I wanted to have some horse for the end of the year,” said Hamm. “The plan was to have a fresh horse for this time of the year. We wanted to just train her a little lightly and have her fresh for the fall run.”
