Into Mischief colt earns TDN ‘Rising Star’ after splendid debut score
January 26, 2026
Canaletto turned in a masterful performance in his Jan. 25 debut at Gulfstream Park, rolling home an eight-length winner in a one-mile maiden special weight affair for 3-year-olds.
The Into Mischief colt lived up to his pre-race expectations with a dominant performance. After breaking on the lead, he settled in third after a quarter-mile, holding his spot down the backstretch. Three-wide into the turn, he cruised to the front with three furlongs to go, then left little doubt as he powered down the stretch to finish in 1:36.28 on the fast track, earning a very solid 89 Beyer Speed Figure.
Sold for $1 million at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale, Canaletto is owned by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael B. Tabor, Derrick Smith, Peter M. Brant, and Brook T. Smith.
Canaletto was bred in Kentucky by Lothenbach Stables Inc. Out of Distorted Music, he is a half-brother to Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Sandman and Grade 3 winner She Can’t Sing. This is also the family five-time Grade 1 winner Music Note, who is the dam of Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Mystic Guide.
Canaletto is now part of a roster of 60 Rising Stars by Into Mischief that includes the likes of Ted Noffey, Newgate, Life Is Good, Mandaloun, Goldencents and Gamine.
