Into Mischief ties Bold Ruler with seventh champion sire straight title

January 3, 2026

2025 came to a close with Into Mischief atop the General Sire List for the seventh consecutive year, tying the record of Bold Ruler, who held the title from 1963-1969.

In addition to that historic accomplishment, Into Mischief was also 2025’s leading sire of 3-year-olds and was one of just two sires to have two Grade 1-winning 2-year-olds.

Into Mischief’s season was topped by Sovereignty winning the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont S. (G1). The brilliant colt who will assuredly win 3-year-old championship honors later this month is Into Mischief’s third Kentucky Derby winner.

Other top horses in 2025 for Into Mischief were Ted Noffey, undefeated winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), two-time Grade 1-winning 2-year-old filly Tommy Jo, two-time Grade 1 winner Patch Adams, who retired to stud for 2026, and Florida Derby (G1) Tappan Street, who recently returned a winner at Gulfstream Park as he gears up for his 2026 campaign.

Into Mischief’s final progeny earnings total last year was $32,552,829, well clear of runner-up Not This Time, with $24,008,987. That 2025 total is second only to the $35,486,571 banked by Into Mischief last year. His 224 individual winners were the third-most in his career. No other sire has ever accounted for 200 in a single season.

The now 21-year-old sire has continued to be prolific in the breeding shed, covering 176 mares in 2025.

Into Mischief’s title was on of four for Spendthrift stallions: Omaha Beach topped the Third-Crop list, Vekoma the Second-Crop list, and Yaupon the First-Crop list, marking the first time a single farm is home to four different champion sires in the same year.
