Ocean Bear the second 2YO stakes winner of the week for Bolt d’Oro

October 31, 2025

Bolt d’Oro closed out the month of October in style, with two stakes winners over the final week of the month, the latest coming at Del Mar on Halloween when Ocean Bear won the Golden State Juvenile in his stakes debut.

Ocean Bear was riding a two-race winning streak coming into Friday’s seven-furlong race. Breaking from post 2, Ocean Bear settled in third along the rail and tracked just behind pacesetter Sammy Davis, who went the first half-mile in :44.95. Turning for home, Ocean Bear swung off the fence and began to cut into Sammy Davis’ lead, ultimately taking over inside the final furlong and winning by three-quarters of a length.

“He rated right and when Umberto (Rispoli) wanted to go, he slid right out and made a move at the end and won the race,” said trainer George Papaprodromou. “He’s a nice 2-year-old. He’s improving with every race. Like today, even Umby’ said he didn’t care about the crowd and showed class. I think he can go longer but for now we’ll take it day by day.”

With his record now standing at 3-1-0 in four starts, Ocean Bear has earned $200,305 for owner/breeder Richard Barton.
