Vino Rosso filly debuts a winner over Colonial Downs turf

August 18, 2023

Vino Rosso now has five First-Crop winners after Cap Classique tallied a 1 ¼-length maiden special weight win over the Colonial Downs turf course on Aug. 17 (WATCH RACE).

Currently a top-five sire on the Freshman Sire list, Vino Rosso has accounted for Bashford Manor S. winner The Wine Steward as well as Khatazhukai, who won a stakes in Russia.

Cap Classique won the 5 ½-furlong race with a stalking trip, coming three-wide on the turn and taking command with just under a furlong to run to win going away.

The winner is owned by DARRS, Inc. and was bred in Kentucky by Cypress Creek Equine, LLC and Three Diamonds Farm. The chestnut filly sold for $145,000 to her owner at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale in May. Cap Classique’s stakes-placed dam Sca Doodle is also responsible for stakes-placed winner Assertive Style.
