Yaupon among top First-Crop sire at OBS March sale

Anchored by a $400,000 colt Wednesday at the OBS March 2-year-olds in Training sale, Yaupon has had a half-dozen horses bring at least $200,000 during the high-profile auction.

Hip No. 456, consigned by Pike Racing at Highlander Training Center, Agent, was the highlight thus far for Yaupon, bringing a winning bid of $400,000 from C J Stables, LLC.

The striking gray/roan colt, who had breezed a furlong in :09 4/5 during the Under Tack show, is out of the Tapit mare Quay, also the dam of Mitole’s Pocahontas S. (G3) winner and Grade 1-placed V V’s Dream. This is also the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Cupid.

Through the first two days of the three-day auction, Yaupon’s sale average is $200,000. Yaupon stands this year for $25,000 live foal.
