Yaupon colt takes NY Breeders’ Futurity for second consecutive stakes win
October 13, 2026
D I Wire led nearly every step of the way to win the New York Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes by 1 ½-lengths, securing the second stakes win in a row for the 2-year-old son of Yaupon.
The leading Second-Crop sire of 2026, Yaupon has accounted for 15 stakes winners and seven graded winners this year. Spendthrift recently announced that Yaupon’s 2027 fee will be $100,000 S&N.
Winner of the Aspirant S. over this same course three weeks prior, D I Wire was favored to repeat that performance in Monday’s six-furlong race. In just a matter of strides after the break, D I Wire took the lead between horses and held a one length lead over Silver Knight through the first half-mile. He stretched it out to two lengths with a furlong to run before gearing down late when the win was secured.
Now 3-0-0 in four starts, D I Wire has earned $245,038 for Screen Door Stables LLC. The dark bay colt was bred in New York by Chester and Mary Broman. D I Wire’s dam Hard to Stay Notgo was a two-time stakes winner and has produced a total of three stakes winners from five foals to race. This is also the family of graded winners Tale of the Cat and Fed Biz.
