Shimmering Aspen scores second straight stakes win

Malibu Moon’s 4-year-old daughter Shimmering Aspen was an easy winner of Saturday’s $100,000 Tax Free Shopping Distaff S. at Delaware Park, upping her career earnings to $293,110 and her record to 7-0-3 from 12 starts.

She now has two wins in three starts this year, including taking the Timonium Distaff S. a month ago, and has four lifetime stakes wins.

Saturday’s win was just as visually impressive as the 3 1/2-length margin. Head to head with Royalty for Life through three furlongs, she dispatched of her foe midway on the turn and won under a hand ride in 1:09.86 on a fast main track.

Shimmering Aspen runs in the colors of Hillwood Stable LLC and was purchased for $200,000 at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Yearling sale. Her dam Aspenglow was also a four-time stakes winner.

Shimmering Aspen is one of 11 stakes winners this year for Malibu Moon, whose progeny have earned $7.7 million to date in 2018.
