With a trio of Vekoma’s juveniles selling for at least $375,000 during Wednesday’s session of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training, the Spendthrift stallion had arguably the best all-around day for any First-Crop stallion represented at the sale.

All three of the horses, two colts and a filly, had worked a bullet :9 4/5-seconds during the Under Tack Show.

Topping the list was hip No. 411, a colt consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent for Chester and Mary Broman, that sold for $800,000 to Donato Lanni, Agent for Zedan Racing Stable. The dark bay, named Rookie Racer, is out of the Bernardini mare Newbie, making him a half-brother to graded stakes winner Classy Edition and multiple stakes winner Newly Minted.

Mayberry Farm was the consignor of hip No. 479, a filly that went to Stone Bridge Farm for $410,000. Out of Pray for Leslie, the filly is a half-sister to Omaha Beach’s Grade 1-placed filly Alys Beach. This is also the family of Grade 1 winner Capo Bastone.

Rounding out the trio is hip No. 577, a colt consigned by Top Line Sales Agency that sold to Carolyn Wilson for $375,000. The dark bay Kentucky-bred is the second foal out of Saucy at Midnight, who is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Rose to Gold.

Vekoma’s average price to this point of the four-day sale is $257,778, over 17 times his current stud fee.
