Alan Porter analysis for Cinco Charlie

The speedy and precocious Cinco Charlie won seven stakes events, four of them, including the Bashford Manor Stakes (gr. III) at two. In doing so, he proved himself one the fastest sons of Indian Charlie, an outstanding sire, and now with the sensational Uncle Mo, a sire of sires.

Cinco Charlie is out of a Mr. Prospector line mare, but he should do well crossed back over Mr. Prospector. There are Indian Charlie Champions out of mares from the Carson City and Afleet branches; a grade one winner out of a mare by Elusive Quality, and graded winners out of mares by Speightstown and Proud Citizen (all by Gone West); and grade one winners from mares descending via  Crafty Prospector and Fappiano (who has worked through UnbridledUnbridled’s SongEmpire Maker, Quiet American and Cryptoclearance); as well as stakes winners descending via GulchSmart StrikeFusaichi Pegasus and Miswaki/Black Tie Affair.

Indian Charlie has also enjoyed considerable success with mares from the Northern Dancer line. From the Storm Cat branch we find Champion Nyquist out of a mare by Forestry and grade one winner Comma To The Top by a close relative to Cinco Charlie out of a mare Stormy Atlantic. Indian Charlie has proved to be very well-suited by mares from the Vice Regent/Deputy Minister branch, including through Touch Gold and French Deputy. Indian Charlie also sired four stakes winners out of mares by Dixieland Band, and has enjoyed success with Northern Dancer through Danzig.

From the A.P. Indy branch of Seattle Slew, Indian Charlie and his sons have grade one winners out of mares by A.P. Indy and his son Malibu Moon, with A.P. Indy line stallions Bernardini and Tapit also looking interesting here. There are other Indian Charlie line stakes winners out of mares descending from Seattle Slew through Boston Harbor (by Capote), Slewacide and Seattle Song.

Indian Charlie’s brilliant Champion Two-Year-Old Uncle Mo is out of a mare by Arch, a son of Kris S. (from the Roberto branch of Hail to Reason), and there are also Indian Charlie line stakes winners out of mares from this line out of mares by Dynaformer and Repriced. Cinco Charlie has a second dam by Hail to Reason son, Halo, but Indian Charlie has crossed well over this line, and it could be reintroduced through More Than ReadySaint Ballado (broodmare sire of an Indian Charlie champion) and Devil’s Bag. The cross with Mt. Livermore and his son Orientate has provided two more graded stakes winners, and there is a graded stakes winner by Indian Charlie out of a mare by Holy Bull.
