Alan Porter analysis for FLAT OUT

The all-time leading North American earner from the A.P. Indy line, Flat Out is a grade one winner from a mile to a mile-and-a-quarter.

Flat Out is by A.P. Indy’s rapidly-rising son, Flatter, a brother to Leading Freshman Sire Congrats. An example of the cross of his sire with Northern Dancer line mare, Flat Out should cross well back over mares from the line. Flatter has done particularly well with mares from the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer including siring stakes winners from daughters of Honor GradesDanzig Connection and Ghazi. His brother Congrats has particularly flourished with mares descending from Storm Cat, with grade one winners from daughters of Forestry and Tactical Cat, and stakes winners from daughters of Catienus and Harlan’s Holiday. Northern Dancer’s three-quarters relative, Icecapade, is sire grandsire of Wild Rush, the broodmare sire of Congrats’ grade one winner.

Flatter has proven exceptionally effective with mares from the Fappiano branch of Mr. Prospector, including a grade two winner Apart out of a mare by Unbridled, and stakes winners out of mares by PentelicusQuiet American and Grindstone. In addition Flatter and Congrats have stakes winners out of mares descending from Mr. Prospector via AfleetWoodman and his three-quarters brother Not For LoveThunder Gulch and Golden Gear (both by Gulch)and Distinctive Pro. There is also a Flatter stakes winner descending from Mr. Prospector’s sire, Raise a Native, through Majestic Light (sire of Wavering Monarch, and grandsire of Maria’s Mon).

Out of a mare from the Halo branch of the Hail to Reason line, Flatter is sire of multiple graded stakes winner Tar Heel Mom from a daughter of Sunny’s Halo (sire of Dispersal), and a stakes winner from a daughter of More Than Ready (by Southern Halo). This also suggests trying the Halo strain through Saint Ballado and Devil’s Bag and their sons. The Roberto branch of Hail to Reason has worked well under both Flatter and Congrats, with stakes winners out of mares by Red Ransom, and You and IPrized and Kissin Kris, all by Kris S. Turn-to, sire of Hail to Reason, is also represented in the male-line of the dams of Flatter and Congrats stakes winners via Smarten, and Eltish and Sultry Song (both by Cox’s Ridge).

There are stakes winners for Flatter and Congrats from In Reality line out of mares by Valid Appeal (sire of Successful Appeal,Valid Expectations and Valid Wager) and Bertrando (by Skywalker, a son of Relaunch, a strain that can also be brought in through Honour and GloryCee’s TizzyTiznow and Officer).

Raja Baba comes from the female line as A.P. Indy, and there are stakes winners by Flatter and Congrats out mares by Raja Baba’s son,Well Decorated and grandson Notebook.
