Alan Porter Breeding Analysis for Freedom Child

Freedom Child is a spectacular graded stakes winner by Malibu Moon from the immediate family of Champion Two-Year-Old Shanghai Bobby. A stakes sire with his first crop, Freedom Child is also Maryland’s Leading Freshman Sire for 2017.

Malibu Moon has done very well with mares from the Mr. Prospector line, and Freedom Child has first crop stakes winner Limited View out of a mare by Not For Love. This includes Kentucky Derby (gr. I) hero, Orb, out of a mare by Unbridled, and grade one winner Moonshine Memories out of a mare by Unbridled’s Song, from the Fappiano branch which has also worked through Quiet American and Rubiano. Malibu Moon has a champion out of a mare by a son of Conquistador Cielo. He has a grade one winner out of a mare by Grand Slam and stakes winners out of mares by Elusive Quality and Speightstown (all by Gone West), and graded winners out of mares by Kingmambo, Smart Strike and Distorted Humor

Malibu Moon has also demonstrated a strong affinity for several branches of Northern Dancer. The Storm Cat branch has been very successful, including grade one winners out of mares by Giant’s Causeway and Bernstein, graded stakes winners out of Forest Wildcat, Tactical Cat and High Yield, and a stakes winner from daughters and granddaughters of Hennessy. Malibu Moon has a grade two winner out of a mare by Royal Academy, a son of Nijinsky II, and from the same line, a stakes winner out of a mare by Sky Classic. The Deputy Minister branch has provided a stakes performer for Freedom Child, and Malibu Moon graded stakes winners out of mares by Deputy Minister and Awesome Again, and stakes winners from daughters Silver Deputy and French Deputy. Malibu Moon has stakes winners out of mares by both Dixieland Band and his son Citidancer. There is also a Malibu Moon graded stakes winner out of Northern Dancer son, Nureyev, and a stakes winner out of a mare by El Prado, the sire of Medaglia d’Oro and Kitten’s Joy

Malibu Moon has crossed very well with mares from the Roberto branch of Hail to Reason siring grade one winners out of mares by Red Ransom and Kris S., and a graded winner out of a mare by Dynaformer. He has also done well when crossed with Hail to Reason via Halo, including through More Than Ready and his sire, Southern Halo (broodmare sire of a Malibu Moon grade one winner), and Saint Ballado. From Blushing Groom line mares, Malibu Moon has a grade one winner from a daughter of Rahy and a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Mt. Livermore.
