Alan Porter breeding analysis for ITSMYLUCKYDAY

A remarkably prolific and versatile performer, classic placed millionaire Itsmyluckday is a winner of seven stakes events from five to 8½ furlongs, at two, three and four years of age. He is the best son of an Eclipse Award winning Champion, and his grandsire is a Champion Sprinter by Danzig.”

Itsmyluckyday is by Champion Lawyer Ron, the sire of 11 stakes winners, five graded, with just two crops. Lawyer Ron struck up a remarkable affinity with Storm Cat line mares, this cross providing him with four stakes winners, including grade one winner Drill, out of a mare by Storm Cat himself, multiple graded stakes winner Stealcase, out of a mare by Cat Thief, and stakes winner Kraslava out of a mare by Giant’s Causeway. Itsmyluckyday’s grandsire, Langfuhr is sire of a graded winner out of a mare by Storm Cat son, Tale of the Cat, and there are numerous other Storm Cat sources that could be tried among them Forest Wildcat, Forestry, Freud (a brother Giant’s Causeway), Hennessy and his son Johannesburg, Menifee ,Harlan’s Holiday), Tabasco Cat, Stormy Atlantic and Stormin Fever (both giving inbreeding to Seattle Slew), Storm Boot, Bernstein, Mountain Cat, Sir Cat, High Yield , Tactical Cat, Storm Creek, Sea of Secrets and Catienus

Both Lawyer Ron and Langfuhr have done very well with mares descending from Northern Dancer through ViceRegent and his son, Deputy Minister. Langfuhr sired grade one winner Jambalaya from a mare by Vice Regent. Meanwhile from sons of Deputy Minister, Lawyer Ron sired graded stakes winner Edge of Reality out of a mare by Touch Gold, and Langfuhr has a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Awesome Again (sire of Ghostzapper) and stakes winners out of mares by French Deputy and Dehere, also suggesting trying daughters of such as Silver Deputy (sire of Posse), Salt Lake, Forest Camp and Deputy Commander.

There are two stakes winners by Langfuhr from the Nijinsky II branch of Northern Dancer, both via Caerleon, Nijinsky II might also be brought in through Royal Academy, Sky Classic, Strawberry Road and Shadeed and his son Alydeed. The Danzig line has done well with mares descending from Sadler’s Wells, and here the El Prado branch, available through Medgalia d’Oro, Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller. Lawyer Ron also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Northern Baby. Mares carrying either of the brothers El Gran Senor or Try My Best (sire of Last Tycoon) may also go well here.

The Langfuhr cross with Mr. Prospector line mares has not been the most prolific one, but there are certain branches that have prospered. There are five stakes winners out of mares by Woodman, including one by Lawyer Ron. Woodman is a Mr. Prospector/Buckpasser cross, and there are also Langfuhr stakes winners out of mares by the similarly-bred Seeking the Gold (sire of Cape Town and Mutakddim – who both give inbreeding to Seattle Slew – and Petionville), Miswaki (sire of Black Tie Affair, himself broodmare sire of a Langfuhr stakes winner, and sire of Formal Gold) and Mining. The Gone West strain looks particularly promising with Itsmyluckyday, whose second dam is a parallel Mr. Prospector/Secretariat cross to Gone West. Lawyer Ron is sire of a stakes winner out of a mare by Gone West son, Grand Slam, and from the same male line, Langfuhr has stakes winners out of mares by Gone West and Mr. Greeley (sire of El Corredor). This also suggests trying mares by Elusive Quality (sire of Smarty Jones), Speightstown and Proud Citizen. Langfuhr also has stakes winners out of mares by Mr. Prospector line stallions Gulch (sire of Thunder Gulch), Two Punch (sire of Smoke Glacken); Conquistador Cielo (sire of Marquetry; grandsire of Artax); and Distorted Humor (sire of Sharp Humor and Flower Alley) and End Sweep (sire of Trippi), both by Forty Niner, also sire of of Coronado’s Quest, Editor’s Note, Twining, Tactical Advantage and Roar. The Fappiano branch of Mr. Prospector might also do well here, including through Unbridled, Cahill Road, Pentelicus, Quiet American, Real Quiet, Cryptoclearance, Unbridled’s Song, Grindstone (who appears particularly interesting) and his son Birdstone, Rubiano, Empire Maker, Broken Vow, Songandaprayer and Rockport Harbor.

From the Raise a Native line via Mr. Prospector’s close relative, Alydar, there is a Langfuhr grade one winner, suggesting trying mares by Saratoga Six, Alysheba, Easy Goer, Strike the Gold, Criminal Type and Benchmark).

Lawyer Ron has a stakes winner out of a mare by Wekiva Springs, a son of Runaway Groom (also sire of Cherokee Run) from the Blushing Groom. Langfuhr has four stakes winners, two graded, out of Blushing Groom line mares, including from daughters of Rahy and Housebuster (by Mt. Livermore, also sire of Orientate and Peaks and Valleys).

Itsmyluckyday is out of a Seattle Slew line mare, and might benefit from crossing back over mares from that line. There is a grade one winner by Langfuhr out of a mare by Seattle Slew son, Metfield, and other sources that have supplied Danzig line stakes winners including A.P. Indy (and sons Malibu Moon, Old Trieste, Pulpit and Stephen Got Even), Capote (sire of Boston Harbor and Matty G), Seattle Song, Septieme Ciel, Slew City Slew, Slew O’Gold and Vindication. Seattle Slew is from the Boldnesian line, and Langfuhr has stakes winners from the Bold Ruckus branch out of mares by Bold Ruckus himself, and his son, Beau Genius, also suggesting Bold Ruckus sons Bold RevenueBold Executive, Highland Ruckus, Kiridashi and  Katahaula County.

From the Hail to Reason line Langfuhr has stakes winners out of mares by Lear Fan (by Roberto), Mr. Leader, Stop the Music (sire of Cure the Blues, grandsire of Take Me Out, American Chance), and Devil His Due (by Devil’s Bag, a son of Halo). The cross of Danzig line stallions with Roberto line mares has also produced stakes winners out of mares by Dynaformer, Red Ransom, Kris S. and sons, Brocco, Prized and You and I), and Silver Hawk. Halo might be brought in through Saint Ballado (a brother to Devil’s Bag) and More Than Ready, who is sire of a stakes winner from the family of Itsmyluckyday.

Lawyer Ron has also sired a stakes winner out of a mare by Broad Brush, the sire of Include.
