Race Day is an impressive multiple graded stakes winner by Tapit, out of a half-sister to four-time grade one winner Lite Light, from a powerful branch of the La Troienne family.
Tapit has enjoyed remarkable success with mares carrying Storm Cat, who appears in 19 of his stakes winners, 14 graded, and four grade one, including via Giant’s Causeway, Hennessy and his son Johannesburg, Forestry, Tabasco Cat, Bluegrass Ct and Harlan’s Holiday. Nijinsky II who is bred on similar lines to Storm Bird, also appears in several Tapit stakes winners.
Daughters of Deputy Minister have supplied the dams of Tapit grade one winners Frosted and Tapizar, and there is also a grade one winner by a son of Tapit out of a mare by Deputy Minister grandson, Ghostzapper (by Awesome Again).
From daughters of the Sadler’s Wells horse, El Prado, Tapit has sired grade one winner Laragh and graded winner White Rose. Out of mares from the Danzig line, Tapit has a quartet of stakes winners, including a graded winner out of a mare by Hard Spun. Out of mares descending from Icecapade – a three-quarters relative to Northern Dancer – Tapit has a grade one winner out of a mare by Wild Again and stakes winners out of mares by Wild Rush and Phone Trick.
Tapit has enjoyed success with some specific branches of Mr. Prospector, notably Gone West, including through Mr. Greeley and Grand Slam; Forty Niner, including through Distorted Humor; Carson City; Cryptoclearance; and Unbridled’s Song.
Tapit’s third dam is a sister to the influential sire, Relaunch, and he has nine stakes winners out of mares with Relaunch. That horse is a son of In Reality, and Tapit has classic winner Tapwrit out of a mare by In Reality grandson, Successful Appeal (by Valid Appeal). Tapit has a stakes winner out of a mare by Cherokee Run, a son of the Blushing Groom horse, Runaway Groom, and he also has graded stakes winners out of mares by other Blushing Groom line stallions Orientate, Rahy and Shy Tom.
Out of Caro line mares, there are stakes winners from daughters of In Excess, Indian Charlie and Cozzene. He has classic winner Tonalist out of a mare by Pleasant Colony, classic winner Creator out of a mare by a son of Private Account, and a grade one winner out of a mare by Concern, who is by Broad Brush, a horse who has done well under Tapit’s sire, Pulpit, and who is also sire of Include. Tapit champion Untapable is out of a mare from the Kris S. branch of Roberto.
