Alan Porter Breeding Analysis for TIZ WONDERFUL
Tiz Wonderful is an outstanding, undefeated juvenile, by emerging
stallion force, Tiznow. A 12 lengths winner at Saratoga on his debut,
Tiz Wonderful captured the Iroquois Stakes by 6 lengths, and completed
his juvenile campaign by defeating grade one winners Any Given
Saturday and Dominican in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2). Tiz
Wonderfuls sire, Tiznow was a Horse of the Year and the only two-time
winner of the Breeders Cup Classic (G1). Leading Freshman Sire, Tiznow
first three crops have already produced Champion Two-Year-Old Filly
Folklore, classic winner DaTara, and other grade one winners Colonel
John, Tough Tizs Sis and Well Armed.
Tiz Wonderful is out of a mare by Hennessy a son of Storm Cat, from
the Northern Dancer line. Storm Cat is a genetic relative to Tiznows
granddam, Lonely Dancer, and it could be worth considering crossing
Tiz Wonderful back over mares from the Storm Cat line. Tiz Wonderfuls
dam is a Storm Cat/Mr. Prospector cross, so it could we worth
emulating that through Tale of the Cat, Storm Boot or Sea of Secrets,
or though other Storm Cat/Raise a Native crosses such as Forest
Wildcat or Cat Thief. Mares by Forestry would give linebreeding to the
dam of Mr. Prospector and a three-parts-sister. Stormy Atlantic or
Stormin Fever, giving a double of Seattle Slew, should also be
interesting, and Tiznow has a multiple graded stakes winner out of a
mare by Tabasco Cat. In addition, Tiznow has also sired stakes winners
out of Northern Dancer line mares by Dixie Brass (by Dixieland Band),
and Salt Lake and Dehere. It should also be worth trying Tiz Wonderful
with mares bred on the Northern Dancer/Mr. Prospector cross, or by
mares sired by other stallions bred on that cross (examples including
Silver Deputy and Dayjur).
From the Mr. Prospector line Tiznow has sired two stakes winners out
of mares by Gone West, and another of a mare by Seeking the Gold (a
Mr. Prospector/Buckpasser cross, like Miswaki, Woodman and Mining).
Tiznows grade one winner Bullsbay is out of a mare by Lord Carson, and
Tiznow also has a stakes winner out of that horses sire, Carson City.
We can also note that the second dam of Folklore is by Fappiano, who
is out of a mare by Dr. Fager (by Rough n Tumble, the broodmare sire
of Tiznows male line ancestor, In Reality). Fappiano sons with In
Reality (who is doubled in Folklore), such as Unbridled (sire of
Unbridleds Song, who would give a double of the dam of Tiznows
broodmare sire, Seattle Song), Cahill Road, Pentelicus and Rubiano
(whose granddam is a sister to Relaunch, the grandsire of Tiznow) look
particularly promising. Another Fappiano son, Cryptoclearance, is a
Mr. Prospector/Tom Rolfe cross, like the granddam of Tiz Wonderful.
Another Mr. Prospector line horse who would introduce this strain is
Forty Niner (who has numerous sons who could be brought in as
broodmare sires, among them Distorted Humor). Tiz Wonderful might also
benefit from mares by stallions bred on a Mr. Prospector/Northern
Dancer cross, including Elusive Quality, Grand Slam and Speightstown
(all by Gone West), Thunder Gulch (giving inbreeding to Storm Bird),
Fusaichi Pegasus, Distorted Humor, Kingmambo, Northern Afleet, Rubiano
and Marquetry. Crafty Prospector, a genetic relative to the dam of Tiz
Wonderfuls male line ancestor, Relaunch, might also work well. We can
note that Tiznow has also sired stakes winners out of mares descending
from Mr. Prospectors sire, Raise a Native, through Alydar (out of a
mare by Turkoman, and this line might also do well through Saratoga
Six) and Majestic Prince.
Tiznow is out of a mare by a son of Seattle Slew, but crossed over a
mare by Slewpy, from his own broodmare sire line, he has sired graded
winner Slews Tizzy and stakes winner Slews Tiznow. and might work well
over other sons of Seattle Slew, including A.P. Indy, Capote and Slew
oGold. Seattle Slew is a Bold Ruler (by Nasrullah) line horse, and
Tiznow is also sire of Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed, who is out
of a mare by Notebook (from the Raja Baba branch of Bold Ruler) and
with a second dam by a son of Seattle Slew. From the Caro branch of
the Nasrullah line comes graded winner Bear Now (out of a mare by In
Excess, the sire of Indian Charlie). Bold Ruler though Secretariat
appears to be a strain that works very well with Tiznow.
Tiznow is an In Reality line sire, but is responsible for grade one
winner Tough Tizs Sister out of a mare by In Reality son Taylors
Falls. He might also work over mares from the Valid Appeal branch of
In Reality. Tiznows sire, Cee's Tizzy, is sire of a stakes winner out
of a mare by Great Above (who is bred on the reverse cross to In
Reality). Great Above can also be brought in as the sire of Holy Bull
and the broodmare sire of Housebuster. It would also be worth
considering Housebusters sire, Mt. Livermore. He is a son of Blushing
Groom, and Tiznow also has a grade one performer out of a mare by
Blushing Groom son Rahy.
Like most In Reality line sires, Relaunch has done well over, Turn-to,
this cross producing more than 30 stakes winners. Good sources are
Roberto (whose son, Kris S. is broodmare sire of Tiznows juvenile
graded winner Tizahit), Halo (who would be particularly good through
Saint Ballado and Devils Bag), Drone, Mr. Leader, Cyane and his son
Smarten, Lord Gaylord and his son Lord Avie.
